How to get a FREE VISA Card - International Debit Card From Axis ASAP Account

A VISA Card for Free, Really?

There are many ways to get a VISA Credit / Debit / Prepaid card and most of them will cost you money in terms of registration fees, yearly / monthly fees, per-transaction fees etc. However, there are a few FREE options available as well! In this article, we will focus on Debit / Prepaid Cards and to be more specific, the most attractive offering of the Visa Debit Cards that are available for free. It is not going to cost you any registration fees or yearly or monthly fees. It doesn't even have any kind of per-transaction fees. There's more, you also get a free zero-balance bank account along with this and it comes from one of the most trusted banks in India.

First of all,

The only compromise you have to make is that you will have to stick with online payments / transactions with your free VISA Debit card because it will be "Virtual". That means you will get all the card details including 16-digit card number, CVV, 4-digit PIN etc. but you will not get a physical plastic card with the free version. If you forget your card details at any point of time, there is an app from the bank which will show your card details (except the 4-digit PIN) or you can also take a note of these details as a precaution and save it in a secure place. So, you will not be able to use the Virtual Debit Card at ATMs. Other than that, it basically doesn't have any difference with a physical Debit card. Anyways, if you are willing, you can get a physical debit card at any point of time but that comes with usual charges just like the other physical debit cards. For that, you can apply from the online banking portal or visit the local branch. Keep reading to know more about how and from where you can get one for yourself.

What is a "Virtual" Debit Card?

A Virtual Debit Card is a debit / prepaid card that you can use for making any online purchase or payment or transaction. The amount of transaction is debited directly from the savings account to which the virtual card is linked. Some virtual cards are valid for a limited time like the physical debit cards and some other kinds of virtual cards can be used for a single transaction only. You can top up your virtual debit card with a certain amount by loading that amount to your savings account to which that card is connected. Basically, if your savings account has balance of amount N, your virtual card will also have the same N amount of balance. Any cashback for the card is automatically credited back to the debited savings account. These cards are called "Virtual" as all the card details (Card Number, PIN, CVV, Expiry Date) are provided to the user but no physical card is issued.

Where to get it?

At present, Axis Bank is offering ASAP savings account which comes with a Free Virtual Debit Card. This is a zero-balance account and doesn't have any Annual Maintenance Charge (AMC) and there are no yearly or per-transaction charges for the card too! However, there are a few limits. For example, maximum transaction limit for a day, which can also be found in case of the other usual bank accounts and debit cards. So, nothing unusual here. For basic usages for an average user, who does not go over the limit, there are almost no charges or fees. There is a very nominal charge for SMS alerts, just Rs. 5 (0.7$) per month and it can be opted out if you are not willing to receive SMS alerts. You will also get all the common banking features that you might expect from any basic savings account.

Why Axis ASAP Account?

There are numerous savings account schemes available from multiple banks and most of them offer at least one zero-balance savings account scheme. Some of these offerings are actually zero-maintenance savings account where you do not need to pay any kind of annual or quarterly or monthly maintenance charges. Some of these have paid SMS alerts, paid chequebook and some other paid features which are optional in most cases. So, a few of the zero-balance savings account schemes available are literally free-to-use. Axis ASAP is a free-to-use savings bank account and it ensures that your basic banking necessities are well met and you do not have to pay charges for all the little things if you do not 'heavily' depend on cash transactions and ATMs. Even if you use ATMs on a regular basis, a paid physical Debit cum ATM option is there. A zero-balance savings account saves the hassle of maintaining the monthly/quarterly average balance so that you can stay tension-free.

Axis bank is among the top three private-sector banks and among the top five banks overall in India. It is considered to be a very reliable bank by the masses. Axis bank has it's good will when it comes to customer service. It has it's own flaws like every other banks but with more than 3300 branches all over India, Axis bank has reached almost every corner of the country.

The ASAP account has some of the most attractive features. If you have an ASAP account, you can enjoy full fledged internet banking like you do with any premium savings account. Best Bluetooth Speaker under 2000 Rs / 30$ : PORTRONICS SOUND DRUM 10W (Water Resistant)

Modes and Connectivity Options

Portronics Sound Drum is a 10 watt Bluetooth Speaker that looks good and sounds good. First of all, this speaker has 4 modes- Bluetooth mode, FM Radio Mode, Aux Mode and USB mode. The Bluetooth version is 4.2. To turn on the speaker, just press the top circular button for 3 seconds and it will turn on. By default, it should enter Bluetooth mode and the blue light will start blinking, which indicates that it is waiting for a Bluetooth device to be paired. You can simply pair your phone or another Bluetooth audio source with it and start playing audio. Just open Bluetooth settings in your phone and "Sound Drum" will be listed. If you don't see it in the list, just refresh and it should be there. After pairing, the blue light will be constant. To increase the volume of your phone or any other audio device that is connected, press and hold the plus button, and the minus button to decrease the volume. To change the mode to FM Radio mode, simply press the same circular button once. The volume level of the phone sometimes goes down to 0% when the device gets paired with the phone. Then after a few seconds, it automatically goes back to the normal volume level and then works just fine. However, it may be an issue with my phone or Bluetooth version incompatibility. So, not exactly sure about that and surely it is not a deal breaker. When you turn on the device, it will resume the same mode which was activated when it was turned on the last time. So, if it was in FM Radio mode before turning off, it will start with FM Radio mode when you turn it on again.

Below this rubber flap, there is a LED light at the top which is also visible when the flap is closed. Then there is a full sized USB port and that means you can use a pen drive or even a card reader to play music. Below that, there is an auxiliary port or Aux port and in Aux mode, you need to plug-in an 3.5mm Aux cable from your audio source (laptop, smartphone etc.) to the speaker and it will automatically enter the Aux mode. In aux mode, it has independent volume control and it will not change the volume of the connected device directly.

The most Important Aspect : Sound Quality!

The Portronics Sound Drum has dual 5 watt speakers. The sound output was good and the loudness of the sound is really surprisingly high for it's size. It is really loud and while editing it's unboxing / review video for YouTube, I had to get the volumes down in a few places in this video where this speaker was playing music. It has a dedicated bass radiator too and again it sounds surprisingly good for the price. The bass radiator is upwards firing. The sound is like 360 degree sound though it is not confirmed but it seems that way. It has an inbuilt microphone. That means, you can use it to take calls with it's really loud speakers.

How does it look?

It looks good with it's textured body, it is kind of braided and made with special synthetic fibers which also makes it water resistant! No specific water resistance rating was provided in the specifications mentioned in the Portronics website but it is mentioned there that this device is protected against water splashing and light rain. The rubber flap protects the ports from liquid spilling. I was really amazed to witness it's water resistance capabilities. I am really impressed!

Battery Life

It has a 1800mAh battery inbuilt. Portronics claims that it has a playback time of 6 hours. As per my testing, if you use it with 50% to 60% volume most of the time, you will get close to 6 hours of playback time. You can charge it with a regular smartphone charger or power bank or even from the USB port of your laptop or desktop with any Micro-USB cable or the supplied one. The led will be red while charging and when the charging is complete, the led will turn off automatically.

A Few Downsides

A few things that I don't like about this product is that the button clicks feel a little cheap. You have to apply some pressure to click the buttons and the clicky sounds are towards the cheaper side. So, the buttons could have been smoother. There is no native SD / MicroSD card support. Again, you can use a card reader for the same (it has a full sized USB port) but a dedicated card slot would have been even better.

Price and Where to Buy?

This Bluetooth Speaker comes with a really attractive price. The price usually varies from 1800 Rs. to 2300 Rs. in different online stores and you should check where it is available for the lowest price. Check out the following links from where you can buy the Portronics Sound Drum :

Credit Card vs. Debit Card vs. ATM card - Comparison

  • A Credit card or Debit card or ATM card is issued usually by a bank. However, some other service providers are also issuing Credit cards nowadays.
  • Debit cards and ATM cards are directly linked to your bank account but a Credit card is not linked to a bank account, that means Debit cards are prepaid.
  • Credit card and debit card, both are used to make payments to merchants or sellers for goods and services, while an ATM card is only used to withdraw cash from ATMs. So, a Credit or Debit card can be used online or in POS machines in shops and other places to pay.
  • Debit and credit cards offer multiple ways to access money without any need to carry cash or a checkbook around. Debit cards are more like digitized versions of checkbooks; they are linked to your bank account, and money is withdrawn or debited from the account as soon as the transaction occurs. Credit cards are different; they offer a line of credit or loan that is interest-free if the monthly credit card bill is paid on time. But if you fail to pay the bill on time, there will be a fine or interest rate applied with the main payable sum. Instead of being connected to a personal bank account, a credit card is connected to the bank or financial institution that issued the card. So when you use a credit card, the issuer or bank pays the merchant on behalf of you and you go into debt to the bank.
  • Debit cards and ATM cards can be used to withdraw cash from ATMs because they are linked to your bank account. But on the other hand, usually a Credit card cannot be used to withdraw cash because, yes you guessed it right, they are not linked to a bank account. Then again, nowadays Credit cards can actually be used to withdraw cash from ATMs which is considered as “cash in advance” and those transactions are not free, they are chargeable.
  • Nowadays, ATM cards are becoming rare day by day because an ATM card has only one job which is withdrawing cash and a Debit card can serve that purpose. So, the banks endorse Debit cards more.
  • Let’s talk about EMIs now. EMI (Equated Monthly Installments) is easily available with Credit cards but not with Debit cards. Then again, nowadays EMI can be availed with Debit cards as well in limited scenarios and the availability varies from bank to bank and merchant to merchant.
  • Yearly charges and other service charges vary from bank to bank for Credit and Debit Cards and many banks offer 0 yearly charges. “Per transaction” charges for Debit cards are coming down day by day and mostly there are no such charges.
  • There are lots of payment network companies like VISA, MasterCard, Maestro, American Express, Rupay etc. on the Credit and Debit cards but not on the ATM cards because ATM cards are not used to pay online or offline merchants or sellers. The banks work in collaboration with the payment network companies to make the whole payment system going.
  • Last but not the least, a credit check is required to get a Credit card. The bank will check your credit history and maybe current financial status. It is done from their end to make sure that you are well able to pay the money back after spending it with the Credit card. But a debit card does not require such credit check because it is prepaid.

500 and 1000 Rupee notes banned, what to do now?

500 Rupee and 1000 Rupee notes banned in India from 9th November 2016
Taking a historical step, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India announced on 8th Nov, 2016 that the existing 500 and 1000 Rupee notes will no longer have legal tender, thereby becoming obsolete and illegal starting from 9th Nov 2016. Remarkably, 500 and 1000 are the two largest currency (Rupee) notes available for public use in India. The old note of 500 Rs has been replaced by a newer version and there is a new note of 2000 Rs. However, there was no announcement for the replacement of the old 1000 Rupee note.

Immediate problems:

  • ATMs will not work on 9th November and in some places on 10th November.
  • All banks will remain closed for public work on November 9.
  • In the first few days, there will be a limit of Rs. 2000 per day per card for ATM withdrawal, which would later be raised to Rs 4000.
  • Be prepared to stand in queue at the ATMs and Banks when they reopen. Large number of people are expected to gather at ATMs, Banks and Post Offices to either exchange or deposit 500 or 1000 Rupee notes or withdraw other valid notes.

Steps taken by the Government to minimize the immediate issues:

  • No restrictions on non-cash payments by demand drafts, cheques, credit or debit cards and electronic/online fund transfer.
  • For the first three days, from 9th to 11th November, the old 500 and 100 Rupee notes will work at the following places:
    - Government hospitals
    - Railway ticket booking counters
    - Airline ticket counters at airports
    - Government buses
    - Milk booths authorised by state government
    - Consumer co-operative stores authorised state or central government
    - Crematoria and burial grounds
    - Petrol, diesel and gas stations authorised by public sector oil companies
  • Exchange old notes at any bank, post office while showing your ID proof. However, there is a limit on this of up to Rs 4000 till 24th November.
  • Control rooms formed in RBI in Mumbai-  022 22602201, 22602944, will be operable 8 am onwards on November 9.

What's upcoming?

  • Rs 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100, whether note or coin, are all valid and the 100 Rupee note, which is the highest currency note among these is going to see a sky-high demand.
  • Share market might see a downfall in the first few days until the realisation of the long term effects of the decision taken by the government.
  • Large number of people will rush to banks(and maybe post offices) to either deposit or exchange their old notes to get 100 Rupee notes or the new 500 or 2000 Rupee notes in return.

What to do now?

  • First of all, rely on online transactions(net banking, credit or debit card, e-wallets) as much as possible.
  • Buy tickets(if you need or you're going to need them soon), petrol/diesel/gas (if you own a car or motorbike) or other products or services if you need worth Rs. 100 to 400 from the places where old notes are accepted for the first three days and give them 500 or 1000 Rupee notes to get 100 (or maybe 50 or less) Rupee notes back in change.
  • Deposit your old notes at your bank or post office account. You get 50 days to do so, from 10th November to 30th December 2016. There will not be any limit on deposits.
  • If you need money immediately, exchange the notes from bank or post office or withdraw the money after depositing.
  • There will be a limit in withdrawals from banks and post offices- Rs 10,000 per day and Rs 20,000 per week. So, if you need to withdraw more than the limit, do not deposit all your old notes in a single bank account and make use of your other accounts at the other banks and the accounts of your family members if you need. This limit will be increased in the coming days but no date has been mentioned.
  • For ATM withdrawals , there will be a limit of Rs. 2000 per day per card in the first few days, which would later be raised to Rs 4000. Here too, no date has been mentioned yet. So again, make good use of the cards of your other accounts and the cards of the accounts of your family members if you need.
  • When you withdraw or exchange, you will get the old and valid 100(or less) Rupee notes and the new 500 and 2000 Rupee notes when they are available. Some sources report that the new notes will be available from as early as 10th November.
  • Make sure you are not getting any old 500 or 1000 Rupee notes while withdrawing money and if you get any of those notes, bring it to the notice of the cashier of the bank or post office. If you get any discontinued notes from any ATM, you would have to complain to the respective bank and ask for exchange.
  • Visit the banks that are not located in prime locations and less crowded in normal days because you will not have to face a huge crowd there as most people will not do the same.

This bold move might affect the lifestyle of the general people a bit at the beginning but the aim of the government is to make a long term effect. At first, there will be confusions among the people and some small and medium businesses can also face difficulties. Especially medium and large retail stores, marketplaces, restaurants, hotels, public transports that trade heavily in exchange of these two larger currency notes might get affected in the upcoming few days by this sudden decision. However, these problems will fade away with time as the confusions get cleared and the new notes become mainstream. The Indian government has taken countermeasures and precautions to handle this massive economical change. This is a big move against black money and this will impact tax dodging, money laundering and terrorism funding significantly.

Why I do not use facebook, messenger, whatsapp, instagram, snapchat anymore in my smartphone?

I used to be a heavy user of my smartphone. I was scoring 5-6 hours of screen-on-time at an average everyday using social and messaging apps and playing games. One day, I decided to change it.

All those notifications, various kinds of tones ringing all the time, addictive messaging apps, constantly scrolling social apps, one after another level of mobile games were eating a hell lot of my useful time! They were making me a less productive human being. Almost 2 months ago, I uninstalled all my social and messaging apps including facebook, messenger, whatsapp, instagram, snapchat, hike, imo, viber, hangouts, google plus. I have also uninstalled most of the games from my smartphone. I have only kept telegram as a replacement of sms to communicate with few of my friends and family because telegram is secure, simple and gets the job done. There are 2 games still installed that I played only once or twice in the last 2 months. I have never used prisma and never played pokemon go. :P

The choice was mine, I did everything intentionally. Nobody asked me to do anything like this, I just thought I should do it. Let me be clear about something, I am not against using a smartphone or the social and messaging apps or playing games, I am against “overusing” them! But, for an addicted person, these apps need to be uninstalled and there should be a strong will power within to not to install them again at least for a significant amount of time to get rid of the addiction. Most of these social apps are available online and can be used with a web browser from a computer and now I use facebook and messenger in this way only. That should also be limited to a short time because long sessions of the same in a computer can get a person addicted again. Here too, strong will power is much needed.

Finally, I have managed to get rid of my addiction with my smartphone screen, at least "quite a bit". Nowadays, I only have 2-3 hours of screen-on-time at an average everyday. So, after the transition period of 2 months, I can now understand how much time I was losing on my smartphone. There are some crucial features present in our phones that are directly related to some basic requirements of our modern lives that cannot be avoided. So, a smartphone is an essential part of our daily lives. I still use my phone but mainly for calling, a little texting, reading news articles, a little music occasionally and to click a picture or a video sometimes. Accept it or not, overdoing anything is an addiction. If you have an addiction of any kind that might be destroying your precious time or money or resources or relationships, please get over it. Please get over it because your life needs you, maybe you do not realise but your close ones love you. Understand your potential, you need to do a lot of work and you need to go far before you sleep.

What about giving an iPhone or S7 Edge to a homeless man rather than breaking it?

First of all, let me tell you that I spend at least 1 hour daily on YouTube watching videos, mostly tech videos, educational and informative videos. But I have noticed something strange in recent times. I have seen many YouTubers destroying their smartphones "intentionally" for making a video for the viewers. Not only that, they are dropping, smashing, boiling, freezing, burning, grinding and doing all the possible crazy destructive stuffs to their smartphones! These crazy activities are not only limited to smartphones, they also include other gadgets like tablets, gaming consoles, televisions, computers and what not! The video can attract the attention of us, specially because it is human nature to be protective and cautious about the things we love and we love our smartphones and other costly gadgets for sure. But at the same time, working on these kinds of videos can really be dangerous for those YouTubers who are actually shooting them and most importantly, this is wastage of resource.

I will now give a few examples of the kinds of videos I am talking about -

Why I ask, can't you help a homeless man instead? Can't you see the joy, the magical feeling in their eyes when someone unexpectedly gives them something? They are in need for help and they do not cause any harm to anyone. You can review smartphones and other gadgets and do other creative things with them. A scratch and bend test is also fine, but there is no point of chopping a television off or dropping a smartphone inside a bowl of liquid nitrogen! So, why destroy costly gadgets rather than helping a poor man/woman? Yes, I completely understand that making videos of costly things getting destroyed will attract lots of eyeballs, making the view count of a video reach really high that generates high revenues from advertisements. Making videos about helping poor, homeless people will attract lots of eyeballs too and moreover, it will attract our emotions and empathy, making the view count of a video reach even higher! It makes sure you get the revenue you are looking for, and mainly and most importantly it helps a person who is desperately trying to live for one more day in hope that the next day would bring something good for them. Of course, this is a proven fact and you can check for yourself.

See some emotional videos and the reactions of poor people when they receive any help -

I hope the destruction of costly commodities on YouTube stops and videos about helping the people in need surfaces more and more. Thank you for taking your time to read this. This message needs to be shared all over the world. So, please share this with others if you have the same feelings about this matter. Thanks again.

A pure CSS 3 based AJAX loader animation

This ajax loader animation is made by us, based on pure CSS and "no" GIF or JavaScript or jQuery! And of course, it is easily customizable. If you are super worried about browser support or compatibility issues, a GIF should be the best solution. In case you see any unwanted flickering effect on the animating elements, it is probably due to one or more style property overload by blogger or the theme(this website is hosted on Google Blogger). Visit jsfiddle.net/bfLqdu0m/3/ for source code and a better view.
Browser support
Google Chrome: 43.0, Microsoft Edge: 12.0, Microsoft Internet Explorer: 10.0, Mozilla Firefox: 16.0, Apple Safari: 9.0, Opera: 30.0

I/O Brush

Not many of us are aware of a device named I/O Brush which aims to wipe out the differences between “painting in the real world” and “painting in computing environment”. It came in existence during the PhD work(2003-05) of Kimiko Ryokai at MIT(Massachusetts Institute of Technology). At that time, Stefan Marti, who also contributed to the project, was the Research Assistant at MIT Media Lab.
How it works?
The new drawing tool- I/O Brush gives the freedom of exploring colors, textures, and movements found in surrounding objects by "picking up" and start drawing with them. Now, this is very much easy to use and realistic by nature in many ways with those amazing feature. The device looks like a normal physical paintbrush but inside the ring of those bristles, it has a small CCD video camera, and a ring of white LEDs around it. There are force sensors embedded inside the brush, which measure the applied pressure to the bristles. At the time of touching the surface, the LED lights around the camera temporarily turn on to provide required light for the camera.

Few words about Technology :
In this modern and smarter world, one may think that the latest trends like internet, gadgets like mobile phones, iPods, laptops or vehicles like cars, aeroplanes, spacecrafts are the only technologies that we know. But this is not true; believe me or not, the use of technology began in the ancient days as soon as humans learned to convert natural resources into usable tools. In those ancient days, human species discovered and used their own technology for making and controlling fire(about 500,000 – 1 million years ago), they build wheels(about 5,000 – 6,000 years ago) - these things helped the ancient people to avail foods and traveling, which made their living easier in the tough world of that time.

Definition of Technology :
Technology can be defined in many ways, here is one definition -  "Technology is the application of tools, machines and materials and also development and processes that help to solve problems, which also represents the knowledge of how to combine resources into desired products(or tools, machines, materials and processes)."
